Choclate, Upon Arrival

Chocolate is a Shar Pei that was rescued by us before she was hit by a car after being dumped on the side of the road without her collar. The vet thinks she was used in a puppymill. When I took her the next day to Dr. Gage at Vet-Co in Los Lunas, for spaying they did a physical on her and found that the eyes may not be repairable due to inward grown eyelids and possible damage to her pupils, we went ahead and did the eye surgery that was needed. She is overweight by about 15 lbs, and the did a heart worm test on her and found that she is heart worm positive. Today she went in to be spayed and I spent an extra 300.00 dollars out of my own pocket to have her eyelids redone so her eyes are not irratated. She came back to the shelter, she is spayed, and had her eyelids redone to stop the irratation. We contacted many organizations for help with the financial part of the heart worm treatment and also contacted an organization called IMOM and they accepted to do the fundraising. Meanwhile, Chocolate was listed on Petfinders and lo and behold a family in St. Louis, MO flew down here to see Chocolate and decided to pay off her vet bill. She went in for her treatment and the family went back home. It was a very successful treatment and The family from St. Louis, MO drove down on January 2, 2001 and adopted her and took her to her new home and before she left, she had a heartworm test done and she was now heartworm negative. This was our best rescue and lots of efforts was put into her, and all knew about her from all over the USA and was also featured on the local news as a special rescue.
